Gerard Butler was born on November 13, 1969, in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, to Edward Butler, a bookmaker, and Margaret Butler.
Raised in a strict and conservative Roman Catholic family, Butler attended St Mirin’s and St Margaret’s Schools, where he excelled academically and demonstrated exceptional leadership skills. He continued his education at the University of Glasgow, studying law.
During his youth, Butler joined the Scottish Youth Theatre, where he began honing his stage talents. However, he harbored a passion for a legal career and started working as a trainee solicitor at a law firm in Edinburgh after graduating.

Butler’s breakthrough came with his role as Erik The Phantom in “The Phantom of the Opera” film.
